130 A circular was read this evening: announcing a great victory by General Sheridan, in the Shenandoah Valley - Among the trophies being 42 pieces of artillery. There is hearty cheering all along the lines over this announcment. Was on Company and regimental drill this morning. I did not go out this afternoon owing to other duties. Friday, Oct. 21st John S. Eckel, R.Q.M.., received a letter from Dr Alfred Jones, who was taken prisoner, by the Rebels, at the explosion of Burnside's Mine, July 30th. Was out on Company and Brigade drill and Dress parade this evening. Helped Gechter make out his clothing account. The body of Jacob Shade was disintered and shipped home. Attended prayer meeting this evening.
