160 Fort McGilvery, Va. Friday, Dec. 23d 1864 A box addressed to Uriah Smeltzer, who is absent sick was received, with a lot of cakes &c, a pair of boots &c. In order to make the most out of the matter it was decided to sell the provisions and send him the money and other things. I agreed to pay $6 00, which Sergeant Paulus accepted and tomorrow the books and other clothing together with the $6 00 will be forwarded to him. Saturday 24th Officer of the Guard today. Sunday 25th Rec'd letter from Goodyear Co, Philadelphia, with $1.50. Ordered addressed Envelopes from G.C. Jenks, Washington, D.C. Weather fine - Good news from all quarters.
