166 Fort McGilvery, Va. Sunday, Jan'y 8th, 1865 Knapsack Inspection at 11 1/2 oclock this morning. Alfred W Gift, of Company E, went home on furlough this morning. Monday 9th On duty as Officer of the Guard. Lieut. Lanty, of Reading, Pa. now member of one of the new Pennsylvania regiments was on a visit to some of his friends in the 50th, and while in our fort was wounded by a rebel sharpshooter; the ball I understand passed through the calf of his leg. Tuesday 10 Rained very hard all last night and greater part of today.
