178 Fort McGilvery, Va. Thursday, Feb 2nd, 1865 Captain G. W. Brumm gave me a lecture for signing a paper recommending Captain Wm. H. Telford, of Company G, for Colonel of the regiment Wrote letters to Cousins Susan Crater and Elizabeth Rodegess, both of Indiana. Friday 3rd During an artillery duel today John Alwein, of Company E, was killed and a number of tents were badly torn by the rebel shells. At the request of Captain Brumm I had my name erased from the paper recommending Captain Telford for Colonel, for the reason that I had signed a similar paper for Capt. Schwenk Rec'd from Capt Brumm 1 Springfield Rifle.
