195 Fort McGilvery, Va. Tuesday March 7th 1865 Commenced sinking another mine in front of our fort; to prevent the rebels from undermining us. We have had one for some time directly in front of the fort, about forty feet deep and perhaps 100 feet long with arms of about twenty feet each, and from one of these arms we had quite a scare some days since, when the sound of something could be very distinctly heard, however it was then discovered to be caused by the artillery men repairing their casemates. Made out an Army Register of the Officers of the Regiment.
