Telford introduced the famous John Burns to the regiment but the old man could not say a word. Then Telford explained to the men that Burns took his shot gun and joined the Union Army during the battle of Gettysburg, and that he was the only citizen of the town who was brave enough to go into the fight. The Colonel then proposed three cheers for Mr. Burns, which were given with a will. After dress parade attended, with other officers, a reception in town.
