230 G.A.R. Was mustered as a member of McLean Post #16, Grand Army of the Republic, March 13th 1871, and immediately entered into the active work of the Post; serving in various positions until the year 1881, when the Comrades unanimously elected me, against my will, Commander. During this year a number of reforms were suggested by the Commander and adopted by the Post, which I believe have aided very greatly in bringing the Post up to its high standing in finances and morals. Among these reforms was an amendment to the By-Laws, proposed by the Commander, that no Beer or other intoxicating Liquor of any kind shall be allowed in the main or anterooms, of the Post.
