3 But "When our soldiering is o'er what a time we will have. Pardon me, Wife, How I love that word wife. Kiss little Maud for me and tell her that this letter is from Pa. pa. Give my love to all our friends. Baker & Moore are well. We lost one of our Company this morning, Charles Pirtle. He went in swimming with some other boys and was never seen afterwards. He was such a nice boy. We regret his loss terribly. There is no danger of an attack on this point at this time. I have not been over to Cairo yet. You had better direct your letters to me at this place. Direct to Lieut J.B. Weaver, care of Capt Baker 2nd Regiment Iowa Vol Birds Point Mo Wife, I will write often. I have not heard from you, by letter, since I left St Joe, I want a letter so badly. I have just had my dinner. And am in a good humor. Give my love to Dr. & Mrs. Finley. Also Mrs. Cole, and [Glen?] & wife and all others. Tell Fisdola I am as fond of Whistleing the double drag as ever. It is very warm here at this time. I think we will go from this point to Washington. One month more and real hot weather will be ours. I am getting as fat as a pig. Charley Dunn left here to day. He started before I had time to write. And then I was affraid he would not take Care of a letter any how.
