But the enemy Could not stand, at four oclock P.M. we had him Completely Whipped and driven pell mell in purfect rout, The day is over thank God and the entire rebel army in the west badly, fearfully, routed, and all cut to pieces & Completely demolished. We Captured nearly all their artilery & small arms in great quantity, The enemy retreated in perfect disorder, throwing away all they had, Report from our head quarters says that Mitchel with about 40,000 men has taken Corinth with about 13,000 prisoners, All is ours. No more fighting in this woods for us, of any Consequence. Company "G" had no body killed, wounded, Capt Moore, severely, in Both legs, not dangerous. Corpl H. D. St John sligtly in hand " J. A. Demute, " " head Private Davis Proctor, " " hip " Charles E. Dunn had the Radius of his right arm broken. Not dangerous. The ballance of the Company are all safe. Our wounded are getting along well and are not in the least danger. Lt Duffield and myself escaped unharmed O my dear wife, God bless you. How grateful we must be to God for His infinite mercy.
