Corinth, Oct. 6, 1862 My dear darling Wife, Thanks to Almighty God I am safe and uninjured, the loss in our Regt is 14 killed and 79 wounded. I will write you in a very short time. Our Victory is complete, Col Baker is dangerously wounded Lt Col.Mills, severely. I am in Command of the Regt. I took command in the forenoon on the 2nd day of the fight & took the Regt triumphantly through. We have lost nine officers killed and wounded. Lt. Duffield is safe. John Wesley Dunn was killed, the only one killed in our Company, The slaughter was terrible on both sides. Our Regt went into the fight with 330 men, You see the per centum in killed and wounded is very great. It is thought that Baker will live. Got your letter of the 28th this morning O my darling how truly I love you. I would give, O what would I not give for one sweet kiss. I am your true and faithful husband J. B. Weaver In Regt - 330 men 10 missing } 14 killed } 79 wounded } 103 casulties
