July 31, 1942 Wendover Utah Dear Dad & Mom: It has been quite cool here today. the sun rather warm but a nice brisk breeze. This morning I drilled and went on a hike and this afternoon we played baseball and horse shoe. We had a rigid inspection a visiting general passed thru here and I guess we passed in fine shape. I think we will move into barracks tomorrow or the next day I don't much care whether we do or not our tents are cool and comfortable and we are not much bothered by rain. When it rained a little the other day anyplace water stood in the [illegible] is just encrusted with salt. I feel okay again I was just off my feed for a day. Yesterday I drew K.P. didn't have to work so very hard but the hours are long. The mess hall is designed for our squadron and is feeding two but the one is soon to move out. We have the head cook living in our tent and he really knows his business, surely different than the Sheppard Field outfit. He has about a fourth as much to do with and the food is twice as good. Am getting acquainted with quite a bunch of fellows already and they seem a nice bunch in general. I got the letter yesterday you first mailed the sixth or seventh and it traveled around so much it came thru pretty nice this time. I'll have to do a washing again soon most everything I have is dirty and all laundry must go to Salt Lake City and it takes more than a week.
