what the cold weather will do to those pets but if the Chinese and Portuguese laborers start in camp they'll manage to supply us in the spring. We have been taking many nice long walks through the country and have picked wild black berries and red-berries. Also some pretty flowers which look like crocuses. There are hedges all along the roads of hawthorne and the red berries are very pretty just now. These roads are the best you have ever seen and we hear they are the best in the world. The fields are full of quail and the people all have rabbits so you see in many ways it is like back home. We have been on the move so much that we haven't been paid for over two months
