Jan 27th 1919 My Dearest Bess: No doubt you will be very much surprised to get mail from Naples but while waiting for baggage I could come down here and stay over Sunday so I took advantage of it to visit Naples Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius. The trip was wonderful and the only draw back was the absence of yourself. Not so much for my pleasure which would be selfish but that you might enjoy the trip and seeing the things that your mind would enjoy. I left Rome Saturday night after spending the day visiting St. Mary Luteran church and the Baptist building
