Thurs. 21 Mr. Dilts visited my school, he taught here a few years ago, but being accused of gross immorality lately his certificate was revoked. I engaged him to assist me in my exhibition. I had a very long talk with him, and came to the conclusion that he was meanly treated by some people in this vicinity. It is thawing pretty briskly. Friday 22 Had the most interesting school today which I ever had. Before the close of recitations, we had it so quiet that you might have heard a pin drop upon the floor. I gave the scholars a few minutes to study and they became very much interested in the closing exercise. My scholars were in a state of secession about having Mr. Dilts for Stage manager, and upon taking a vote the scholars unanimously repudiated my appointment. We adjourned at noon, and commenced building our stage, which we finished about 4 o'clock P.M. The weather is very mild and the water is very high at some places. I had my rehearsal tonight. For the first time I had an excellent game in playing snowballing with my scholars, we kept it up until Niles Sherfey conquered the enemy; we had considerable sport. I feel nearly worn out by this incessant labor that has been upon me for the last few weeks. Rained to night.
