April 1 April 1 Monday. This is the first day of April, a day which has brought me many roguish sports, it is a feast with the boys in which the hen's eggs generally suffer the consequences. But today I had to speak a declamation. Our society met and we had a good time! Weather fine. Tues. 2. Immense flocks of wild pigeons crossed this place today, I made ready my gun, after which they ceased flying so numerously and I did not get a single shot at them. I attended the professor's lectures on elocution, but do not like his modus operandi. Wed. 3 I recite pretty well now in all my studies and am making some progress. I attended the lecture on elocution but was not at all satisfied with the professor's proceedings, he is not capable of teaching the science. Thurs. 4 About midnight I was roused by Soper saying he had the measles. Which I found upon examination to be the case he is broken out all over his body I am very glad that I have had them, this is a very bad season to have them, it being very stormy
