Friday 5. My health does not seem to be as good as I would desire it. I attribute it partly to the change of the weather I lack that vitality which is absolutely necessary to a student in order to make sufficient progress in his studies. My friend Soper is quite ill, but not dangerously Satur. 6. I did not study very much, but spent most of my time in reading several stories and other literary productions. The weather is very rainy and of course combined with a sufficient quantity of stuff styled mud in this country. Sun. 7 I prepared myself for church but by the time I was ready to go to go it took a notion to rain as I made the wise resolve to postpone my engagement and to remain within this house and read Comb's "Constitution of man" which I did with considerable delight. Spent a very pleasant day. Mon. 8. Our exercises were very interesting, some of my fellow students are making rapid advancement in the literary art and are able to produce very acceptable essays. I was almost unanimously elected Resident of the Young Men's Institute.
