Tues 9. April is bringing us constant showers which make the earth and its inhabitants look gloomy, but i expect to see better days in this changeable months. We were astonished to learn that the U.S. and the G.S.A. are going to face each other upon the bloody files of battle, it will doubtlessly be a bloody war but the God of battle will certainly be with those who fight for liberty and the just laws of a once happy and free people. Northern sons of liberty rouse for the protection and defense of your sight! Wed. 10 My recitation suit me very well and i am very much elated with my success in my studies. Mr Farbes visited our recitation in Virgil today. I find some time this term to read some of the news, and other interesting works which i did not have here before. I also write a little Thurs 11. Some of the most prominent German politicians have been appointed to lucrative offices, Carl Schurz as minister to the Spanish court and Frederick Hanssareck [Hassaurek], minister to Ecuador, this is a signal triumph with the German citizens and i hope this friendly relation may be extended.
