Wed. 30 I started home, after stopping on the road a few times to see certain men, I reached home in good time, when I made arrangements to leave for my school tomorrow. The weather keeps cold. Thrus. 31. Left home this morning, for Homestead took the cars here for Summit, walked from here to Ady’s where I arrived pretty late in the evening after a tiresome journey. Frid. 1 November 1st Yes this is the 1st of November 1861, here I am again with Mr. Ady, ready to enter once more upon my professional duties as teacher of the Mt. Grove School many and important changes have taken place since the previous month of November, but I hope it may prove all for the best. I worked a little today. Sat. 2 Went to the school-house and swept it had a dirty time of it. Engaged Mr. Goddard to chopp my wood this winter Visited Pace’s family. Put up two charts of Penmanship. It is cloudy and cold. Sun. 3 Went to Summit with Mr. Ady, and got my trunks, spent the afternoon in arranging my things for operation for my school. Spent the evening in useful reading.
