1861-12-13 -- 1861-12-17

Frid. 13. My school did very well in performing their rhetorical exercises, I am well pleased to see them make rapid progress in their studies.
Satur. 14 I went to town and attended the Teachers' Association, I gave a lecture on Penmanship, had a pretty interesting time, after the meeting walked home with Mr. Hoffman and staid with my friends, Camehl, all night, they were glad to see me, I had not seen them for nearly a year.
Sun. 15. Walked from Camehl's to Ady's this morning, met a good many churchgoing people it made me feel, very curious, walking along with a bundle of books under my arm on Sunday morning. I rode to church in the evening with Miss Emily Ady, had a very pleasant time.
Mon. 16. I attended church this evening with Miss Emily Ady walked nearly all the way, a distance of 3 miles had a very fine walk, it being a grand moonlight night, the finest I think I ever saw, the revival at Oak Dale chapel is making slow headway.
Tues. 17. An English war is very much talked of, it is stated that England demands Mason & Slidell, if England intends to fight us under such a trivial pretext, I say, "let her pitch in." The telegraph also announces the burning of Charleston S.C. some accounts attribute it to the slaves, and others to accident.
