Sun. 6. This morning I attended Episcopal Church of which Mr. Ufford is pastor, he preached an excellent sermon, concerning "Faith". In the evening I had the pleasure to listen to Rev. Davis of the U. B. Church. I spent this day very profitably, spiritually speaking. Mon. 7. This is a very warm day the thermometer ranging from 90 to 102, in the shade. I resumed my law studies again and am more determined to go on with them as vigorously as I possibly can I wrote several letters to my friends. Had three of my teeth filled by Dr. [Goodno], for $3.00. Tues. 8 It rained pretty hard early this morning, was comfortably warm during the day. I wrote a notice concerning the meeting of the [Miss] Co. Teacher's Ass. for the paper. Spent a pleasant afternoon with Miss Carrie Barrows who teaches me phonography, and whom I teach German. Had a good bath. Wed. 9. It rained severely today. The war news is better for us. Mc Clellan's army is again moving onward to Richmond, may it bring the rebels to terms this time. The president has issued a call for 300000 more troops. Iowa will furnish probably 6 more regiments in this new levy. I am studying pretty hard at present.
