102 Duties of the day, from a diary kept by Sir Matthew Hale Morning 1st to lift up the heart God in thankfulness, for continueing our lives, 2ond to renew our covenant with God in Christ, by resolving to be one of his people, & doing him allegiance, 3d Adoration & Prayer; (Daily employment) to serve God in it, (it is a service to Christ though ever so low,) observe faithfulness cheerfulness & dilligence; Not overcharge ourselves with more labor than we can bear (When alone): beware of wandering, vain, sensual things do entertain them: (In company:) Try to do them good, or receive good from them, if more knowing: (Evening:) Cast up the accts. of the day; if there is aught amiss, ask Pardon: resolve to be more vigilant: If we have done well, bless the mercy & grace of God, which supported us: We should not rest on our own directions, & strength, but implore, & rest on the directions & strength of God: True Religion he says; teaches the soul a high veneration for Almighty God, a sincere & upright walking, as in the presence of the allseeing God: it makes us truly love, honor, & obey him, & careful to know his will: It makes the heart highly thankful to him as our Creator
