Yes the abscess, which was not an abscess, came first on R. buttock and it appeared so red and angry looking and pained him so I insisted on opening it - I did not operate twice Mrs. Fox - and in deed we could hardly dignify what we did by calling it an operation. We neither had any kind of anesthesia. He told me that the 'gig was up' and he could never get well - why he felt so at that time I couldn't understand as his condition did not seem dangerous - 2 days later he developed pneumonia which proved fatal - I was with him all the time - day and night - had 2 nurses - one day one night.
