Philadelphia Sept 23 [inserted in different hand: (1917)] Dear folks I will drop you a few lines as have a chance and time sure was well pleased with the sweets only wish were there to thank you in person. I have one more night of this [illegible: 1 word] night shift and sure glad as it nearly puts me on the bum. I have not heerd a scratch from [Logan? Hogan?] I supose they have gone to sleep on the job. I sure hate it about my brother having to go but what can you expect in war times. JWB, with love and kisses
