Tues. July 17 [1944] Saipan Island Dear Dave -- I finally have a few minutes, so I will get this letter off that I have been trying to write for some time. I want to thank you for the "Scuttlebutts," Dave. They are really nice. I have received several of them here on Saipan. I got quite a kick out of one of them I received here. I was reading it in a fox-hole, way up in the hills, over-looking Magacienne Bay, one night, and it told about Ted brown's "Fox-Hole." I sure hope his is a lot more comfortable than mine was that night. What with artillery, [mountains?], and snipers everywhere it gave me something to think about anyway, and at least I could wonder if I would ever have a nice, tall cool one in his fox-hole. But it's all over here now and we are resting up for a few days. We all wonder when and where we are going next. Just
