insure us to be at home on christmas we will stand by him til death i saw him he is a sour looking old cuss but is a very good gen our col is a cross mean old cuss he will be killed the first battle we get into capt Markham started home yesterday he had one of his men whipped for not carrying two knapsacks they was a going to court martial him and he resigned and left his men none of them liked him he would have been killed if he had a staid he is a mean man our capt is as good a man as ever lived he is sociable and looks to his co welfare we get along very well i got that money and was glad to get it but i caint buy the stamps now there is none here i will have to send my letter home
