and very soon her health would not permit her to do the work. At once I was asked to be Co Chairman of the U.S. Food Administration & consented to do my best. I was sworn in as Temporary Chairman & later as Permanent Chairman. During this time some letters have been forwarded to me which came to Mrs. Nelson addresses to the Co Chairman Women's Com C.N.D. Later I have received a few communications from you. I am frank to ask what connection have these two offices? I thought the food work was only one branch of the Defense work, Child Welfare work another branch and wool conservation another branch etc but from reading these letter i find the Child Welfare work comes under the Food Admin. work. Then how about the Wool Conservation work? I was sworn into office by the Food Admin. & have the franking privilege. Have heard of nothing of the kind for the Defense Work & --- you use the Food Admin. envelopes, so conclude all Defense work must come under the Food Admin. work. Am I right? Please help me to get my bearings. I have worked vigorously in the Food Work but do not understand this other Defense work as being connected with the Food Administration. Very Sincerely Mre. W. F. Beck
