My Dear Mrs. Whitley: I have sent a number of signed cards to J. Z. Deisus at Burlington Iowa and have a large number out which I hope will be sent in soon. The Red Cross work seems to absorb women[']s attentions so much that they do not see the need of taking up this work. I know they are doing their best for the food situation and have raised more and larger gardens and have canned much more fruit and vegetables than ever before. There are gardens in every vacant shop, and they have yielded well. Food and canning
