1/4 of an acre the country surrounding it was sandy, the timber from Wilmington here has been principally pich pine & the soil white sand today we have found some clay soil & oak timber, pass through Smithfield cross the neuse river march 20 miles " 25th march at 6 A.M. arrive at Raleigh in the afternoon and after reporting to Gen Scofield & Provost Marshall & Div & Brig Hd.Qrs were allowed to join our command & I was heartily glad
