July 1865 Swing from the dock & start down the James River pass Fts Munroe in night " 4th morning finds us steaming up the Chesapeak Bay weather very warm mercury stands at 100 deg. in the shade, we arrive in Baltimore at 10 P.M. making 28 hours on the boat & running a distance of 285 miles, when we landed at Balto I went up town & saw the fire works drank a few glasses of ale - nothing stronger -
