a corporal went on from this company besides myself. All of us privates were supernumaries except one. He was tall so they stuck him on the first relief. They have fifteen prisoners over there now. The supernumaries are just a substitute in case a guard gets sick or something. They also "chase" the prisoners, that is, we took them to work and their meals. There were two "doughboys" supernumeraries too. Whenever the Sergeant of the guard would call for supernumeraries these dough
