gun. Rations consisting of cheese sandwiches and coffee were brought to us. Oh, but they tasted good. The trenches here are about seven feet deep. The main trenches have a fire-step which enables a sentry to look over the parapet into No-man's land, during the night. But during the daytime he has a periscope for he doesn't dare stick his head above then or it will be goodbye with him. We wore steel helmets just like they wear "over there."
