Saving...
we went in the drawing room by the roaring fire and had coffee and visited and knit. Pam Jordan, aged fourteen, frankly adores me and just sits and beams. When they went home Polly went with them to stay. Then we all went to bed about midnight with hot water bottles in our beds and down puffs on top. At nine the next morning (Sunday) the maid called me and we went down to breakfast. Then I went to Jordans and picked up Polly, Pam and Margaret (aged 18, who works in one of the offices here) I like her very much too. We went in town to church in the one I mentioned before, by the ruins. As we walked down the footpath the sweet bells floated up the misty valley all mixed with the music of the swift water. Everyone was going, from all the thatched stone cottages. We met the vicar's wife by the church and went to services. They were very simple and very nice. Then we stopped in at her house for a visit with her and the vicar. Then a quick walk around the ruins for Polly's sake and back to the "Swan" to meet Bobby and Freddie and Jay and the dogs. Then back to Whitehall with the Jordans for dinner. More neighbors
