Saving...
the British days and is heated only by fireplaces and electric heaters, as most British homes are. I'm delighted that the etchings got there OK. They really travelled once they got started. All but the two colored ones are of the same place. The tower is Magdalen tower; the street the main street. You might tell the people who get them what they are. It's all right about the salad set for [Mimi?]. Yes, we had a swell time when I mailed the package. There were quite a few far away ones. [note in margin: Bombs] Lin had one much closer the other day there. Quite an adventure, in fact. I was glad about Mary Bess. One thing is sure, if I don't find someone it won't be because I haven't seen the lot. It just hasn't clicked. Of course it only takes once. The two detached service girls have gone. They went the day after Gen left. We hated to have Gen go, but Shirlea is much better in every way. She isn't as pretty, but much more lively and efficient. The recreation one spent two weeks in the hospital here with pneumonia, so she wasn't too much help. She just wouldn't slow down. My volunteer is quite good. She is learning fast and I'm not so tied down. After Christmas I'm going to do lots of [hard?] work personally. No, I haven't been able to get [films?]. If you can get any I'd like to have them (No 116). Mary's six were a blessing. What a drab life the [Smittles?] have had! Always trying so hard to have a good time and impress people. Good for Sarah Davis! You never can tell when you'll want a good foxhole.
