everything you buy is four or five prices and there is darn little you can buy. the people over here are about a hundred years behind the times you never see or hardly ever see a farm house the people all live in towns. the house barn chicken coop and ect is all under the same roof. where we stay now they step right out of the front room into the barn. and the old man has a thrashing machine built right in the barn and and it is run by horse power and is about the size of our farming mills. He and the Mrs. and the two girls run it about two hrs every day. and they have been all winter thrashing about two loads of wheat and they still have three or four loads of oats to thrash and if they get done by spring they will do well. But down in the Alsace I have seen them thrash
