June 24, 1945 Trinidad Dear John: I've meant many times to answer your good letter I received last February and to thank you for the cigars. Did enjoy hearing from you and apologize for the long delay. Only arrived at this place a few days ago and am just loafing around waiting for a new job or assign [ment?] of some sort. Rather thought a rest would be welcome but find the time is beginning to drag and want to be doing something. Spent a week in Naples before leaving Italy which I enjoyed. Saw the high spats of the town, visited Pompeii climbed to the top of mt. Vesuvius etc. The Italian towns are not what the tourist saw a few years back I'm afraid but there are still many new things to be seeing
