Camp Barry December 20th 1861 Dear father and mother I take my pen in hand to write again to you to let you know that I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same. I received your letter of the 12 last night and was glad to here from you and here that Mother was getting better and here that the money that I sent home got there safe for I began to think that it had gone up. John Bailey says he will pay me next pay day. We sent about $45 from my tent. Byron sent $10 and Lewis sent $10. Abe sent $5. Grove $3 and I sent $15. Dean sent none he gave me $5 to keep for him. I kept it about 5 days then he came and wanted it to pay some that he owed and that the last of that. he hasen't got none now. We toll him to send some home but he dident do, so he can't see any thing but what he must have it. The sutler that has been a curse to our camp and to the army is stoped now our sutler left yestaday. We have some of the nicest weather here I ever saw. Warm and clear day cool and clear nights. I shall have to go and drill now. Finish after drill it is about 1oclock now
