in there that Capt. Frank of the Mexico company had been premoted and that Leutenant Ames had been premoted to Capt and sergent Borse had been promoted it is not so and isent like to be eother. We here of a great many thing that isent so. Capt frank isent a very good officer We have staid at camp Barry so long that it seams like home. We here of the rebels evyrday. I shall be glad when we get nye enough to point our old 24 pounders at them. We shall have some hard fiteing between now and spring. There is about 54,000 cavalry and 15,000 Arty about 160,000 troops in all in the field you cant think what a sight it is to see the thousands of tents here george towns heights is white with them Capitol hill is covered with Artillery Maryland heights is covered to but I must hurry and write. I think the war will be settled by this time next year. It soon will be Christmas. I supose you will have a good time there I hope but I am getting tired of writeing and my thinking I macheine is tired to so I will close. Write soon direct your letters the same for they will be forwarded if we move till I give you futher directions so good by from your son C A Gates to A. Gates and C. R. Gates
