said thats it boys go in and we give them about 100 rounds, and then the old General told us to hold up a minute and we did and not a rebel could be seen or heard. Then the old General said boys give them three cheers to help them off on and we did you better believe. We have got one of the best Generals in the whole army he goes by the name of fighting Dick. Gen Richardson he is a regular: old farmer weighs about 190, he hardly [sic. hardly] ever wears sholder straps only on day that we have reviews the day the fight was at Fair Oaks he came over and eat with our boys coffey and hard tack. That was after the fight sunday he thinks a great deal of our battery at any rate he has given us the post of honor in our Division. last night we had to send out as much as a dozen times our pickets were fired on a number of times. We dont get much rest now, our lieutenent was thrown from his horse friday and he struck his back across a small log and hurt him so he has no feeling in his lims [sic. limbs]. Yestday one of the boys went down as far as the White House
