goeing but I have heard no news from our forces yet. Yestday in the afternoon our Division was marched to this place nere where the battle commenced. I dont know how long we shall stay here. Not long I guess most all of our force was sent off yestday after the rebels. It is a aful sight to go over the battle field and see the dead rebels. In some places they are three deep where they tried to take one of our battys. Our Division captured 10 standards of colors and prisoners any quantity. I shall have to stop for the present. I dont feel much like writing this morning George Borlous father is here. He came here last night. You have heard of the battle on sunday nere Frederick I suppose this is all to day so good by from your son. C A Gates A Gates
