day we came as far as snickersville and took possesion of Snickers Gap. We had only just got on top of the gap or hill when the rebs came in sight on the other side. if we had been 1/2 an hour later they would have got the gap before us. The next day we marched within 2 miles of Ashbys gap and camped on Old Col Ashbys Plantation. The man that was noted as the leader of Ashbys Cavalry. We lay there most tow days most night. We marched within 4 miles of the Mannassas gap Railroad and camped the next day. We made it as far as Summerset mills that is on the mannassas gap railroad. We lay there one day While we were there it snowed about 1 inch. The next day we marched about 7 miles of here
