a great man.  It will be a great loss to this Nation if not the ruination  he was the only man that could save this republic I think and that is the opinion of the Army. 
he was no party man.  That is not what we want in these trying times.  Mcclellan was a honest man he thought of the soldier not of the poltician . Polticians are the ones that brought this war on.  They 
are the ones that are at home trying 
to make more trouble not in the ranks where they ought to be.  There they 
would have a privalege to make trouble if they could this war must end soon as the Name of United states must seas but I hope it will end but things look dark now but I must hury and write I have not heard from Alonzo yet Byron we left in the Hospital at Harppyrs sick. 
I got a letter from Samuel and Emma 
but have no paper or stamps to answer 
it father if you see them tell them so.  This I got from one of the boys I have wrote a very short letter of this but this is all the paper I can get.  I will try and write more the next time so good by
