Camp Nere Gettysburg PA 1863 July 4th Dear father I have a little time to write I will improve it. I am well and safe after such a terribel [sic. terrible] battle as we have had for the last tow [sic. two] days. I wrote to you last when I was at Edwards Ferry. I have not received a letter from you in a long while. We came back in to our old corps the 1st of this month. We joined them on the 1st in the afternoon and marched from Tanneytown to within about 2 miles of the battle ground where we camped till 4 in the morning when we march up to the battle ground in the rear of Gettysburg and took a position during the forenoon
