Then we took up a posion and lay there till about 2 O'clock in the afternoon when our Picket on the opposite side of the river were driven in and the rebels appeared in force on the south bank of Bull run. They soon opened a battery on one of ours an the left of us in front of the fort and advanced their infritry and tried to force the forte but we sent some of them to their long home and the rest to where they came from. We soon silenced their battery and then all was quite in front of us till about 5 Oc when a supply train of ours come down to the river.
