Culpepper, Va. Dec 1st 1863 Dear father yours of thee 24th come to hand last night it found us all in good health. I hope this may find you the same. We are camped in a fine fashion all except for water about one mile from this town. We have expected to move every day for the last tow [sic. two] weeks, but things looks so now that there will be no forward movement yet a while. We are haveing [sic. having] very dry and pleasant weather here now. We were payed off the 26th and settled up for our years clothing some of the boys did not draw any money their clothes took it all. We have sent our clothing off and
