Each had its individual characteristics. I saw a lot of furniture and paintings and curtains and tapestries that I wanted to carry off. The drawing room opens on a terrace overlooking a beautiful garden and having the whole valley in perspective. Then there is a courtyard with two towers in it that were used for defense back in the fourteenth century. It is fairly certain the lease will go through. I'm hoping to have the privilege of spending a little time out there. Entertaining the visitors. If I continue to like the place then I'll buy it for our summer home - provided they'll take what I offer. The town is smaller than G.H.Q. and not particularly attractive in itself. It is interesting though for its very real atmosphere of war. One sees plenty of soldiers here who have been at the front and are going back. And of course here we get
