another week has dragged by, and a week from tonight -- if nothing happens to prevent -- I'll be back in my billet at G.H.Q. Now that billet is not home -- but it's a mighty lot nearer it than the barracks cell here. In spite of the hardships of our life here we have a lot of fun. Or rather, it is because of them, for we make humor out of our very discomfort. After freezing awhile we got hold of an issue stove and had it set up with the pipe out the window. It is just about the size of a sack of flour. The pipe we had first was about as big around as a man's arm and very leaky. Our first efforts to build fires resulted chiefly in our making the room untenable because of smoke. Yesterday we got a new stovepipe and for a time had a real fire that actually dried a spot on the damp floor about six feet in
