some nonsense myself but I can't now because it's midnight and the setting sun from bough to bow doth pensive run and early to bed, early to rise laughs last. Yes, I sent the book to Norris. I haven't heard from him, though probably because, as I am informed, he is on his way to France in some special service. My feeble French lamp sputtered a few last gasps and died a half hour ago, since when I've been writing in the light of a candle tenderly placed beside the corpse. It's time for the wake to end though. (This is getting good, n'est ce pas?) Forgive me! I feel almost human tonight. Maybe it's because I had a hair cut and a shampoo and a tonique and an honest-to-Gawd bath this afternoon. In our club we have the only
