have if I had know that fate was in prospect for it. I'm quite willing for her to quote me, however, on the good work the Y is doing over here. It was very valuable to me personally in the unpleasant situation at Army Schools. And I have seen the good work going on in many camps. Even within a few hundred yards of the German trenches I found a Y.M.C.A. dugout where the men could get hot coffee as they came off the long night watches. A great deal of the success of the Y is due to its liberality - a liberality expressed in ways that probably would shock some of the very pious folk who have given it their support. One of its chief services is to keep the soldiers in cigarettes. And
