had been written after you had received a letter from me. If only the letters I am writing are getting to you regularly. You are not lacking word from me. And even if I do get your reply to number four when I'm writing number thirty or so it is mighty pleasant to have the letters coming and going all right. Numbers two and three were written on board ship. I thought they would be first to reach you. If they haven't wandered in by now I suppose they are reposing in the censor's basket until after the war. That letter about my "green devils" wasn't very nice, I'll have to admit. I was sorry about it afterward. Recently I have been almost glad I wrote it because it brought back such a marvellously sweet rebuke. I have never had any real fears about the stability of your love, dearest
