Not any real doubts. The "green devil" times have had their foundation only in foolish speculations of the awful things that could happen occasioned perhaps by the very intensity of my love of you and my jealousy about possession of every little bit of your affection. It was mean, wasn't it, for me to talk that way just to get you to say all the nice things you did? I won't do it no more, honey, much as I love the reaction. Soberly and calmly thinking. I know very well that I am the luckiest man alive. You are no immature girl; you would never have married me unless you felt sure of yourself. And being so love like yours will survive any trial. You write beautifully of your feeling toward me, belovedest. Can you know how proud and happy you make me? You said in a letter awhile back that you wanted to hear me say, "I love you."
